International Women’s Day was celebrated on 8 March 2025 at Chowkaghat (and on the 9th at Nagwa slums) in Varanasi, bringing together a vibrant community dedicated to women’s empowerment. The event was graced by esteemed guests including Parshad Amit Maurya, a representative of the One Stop Centre’s management, and SVN School’s manager, Deepika Bind.
The inaugural session began with an inspiring speech by Father Maju Mathew, who emphasised the importance of empowering women. A soulful cultural performance by the Chowkaghat Sanskritic Group set the tone for an evening of celebration and motivation.
Young talents showcased their spirit through various performances — little Ishika presented a touching poem on women’s strength, while girls from Bharlai performed a mesmerising dance symbolising fearless independence. The health team captivated the audience with a melodious song, and local women’s groups enchanted everyone with folk songs and rhythmic dances.
The celebration further highlighted women’s empowerment through speeches, skits and traditional dance. A special moment was the recognition of five outstanding women from the community, honoured for their remarkable contributions. The event was conducted by Anita and Sandhya, while R.P. Chauhan delivered a heartfelt vote of thanks.
As the celebration concluded, guests departed with renewed inspiration — a reminder that when women rise, the world rises with them.
