ASMITA

(Association for the Socially Marginalzed’s Integrated Therapeutic Action)

ASMITA is a registered charitable trust, founded by Fr. Dilraj IMS in 1998 at Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh. This organization caters to the needs of the underprivileged people who live on the periphery especially the women and children in the slums in the city of Varanasi. It exists for the dignity and empowerment of the marginalized migrant laborers, widows, children engaged in hazardous situations in the slums, and children who need care and protection.

ASMITA aims at the integrated improvement of the living standards of slum dwellers, and emphasis is laid on both physical and social improvement along with educational activities and vocational training programs, necessary health interventions, etc. Special focus is given to child development and the empowerment of women. This noble work can bring a transformational change in the lives of children and the community as a whole in the slums of Varanasi. We have been working in these areas for a long time providing them with education, health, water and sanitation, vocational training, legal aid, and assisting them to have a better living standard.

This being the work done by ASMITA, in 2008 CHILDLINE INDIA Foundation entrusted ASMIA to run the Varanasi CHILDLINE. From then on Varanasi CHILDLINE in the hands of ASMITA has stood to its purpose of serving the children in need of care and protection. It has one of the best teams, consistently working day and night. Above 8000 cases have been attended successfully by us in the past. ASMITA gets volunteers from three Universities and colleges. This year there are 50 above volunteers with the organization.
