ASMITA conducted a baseline survey in the month of January 2022 in ten slums of Varanasi city concerning health issues focusing on women. This survey showed that 67.36 % of the children below the age of 10, in the slums, were underfed and malnourished, and 71.8% of the women suffer from anemia and malnutrition. Pregnant women are in the high-risk category concerning their motherhood and daily intake of food. The condition in the slums is much worse. None of the primary stakeholders have a steady flow of income. They mainly depend upon rag picking, scavenging, and sweeping the roads or pedestal selling of goods. They are landless, living in makeshift huts with one bed inside for all four members of the family. They often cook food in an open and unhealthy environment. The second wave of Corona has hit us so badly in North India Innumerable people died many lost their livelihood. During the second wave, we have covered the neediest families with 4,200 food kits. Among them were the feeding & pregnant women and widows in the slums. We would like to continue the support given to pregnant women since they are very vulnerable. We need food kits for them. This would cost us 650/- per kit.
